Jesus Christ did not die on the cross so you and I could have a nice day.
Ministers and teachers who water down the gospel of Christ in order to make it more popular and appealing may be leading their fun-loving audiences down the road to eternal punishment.
This book is John MacArthur's unflinching, unapologetic treatise on the modern tendency to alter the true message of Christianity in order to meet the whims and desires of a culture hoping for nonconfrontational messages, easy answers, and superficial commitments.
Too many people just want a Madison Avenue Jesus to make them well, make them happy, and make them prosperous. But Jesus Christ isn't a personal genie. He is the Savior. He died in agony to satisfy the wrath of a holy God and to forgive the sins of humankind. Faith in Him demands a willingness to make any sacrifice He asks. The hard truth about Christianity is that the cost is high, but the rewards are priceless abundant and eternal life that comes only from faithfully follwing Christ.

"This book by JMac is a book that goes against the grain for popular Christianity in America. The words of the Lord not only measured to us faith and grace but it also measured up to us the challenges of self-denial and cross-bearing. Both of those ideas are increasingly difficult for the consumer mentality of churchgoers in America. Instead of being so concerned as to what the Christ can do for us, this book homes in on the need for what we must do for Christ."

- This book by JMac is a book that goes against the grain for popular Christianity in America. The words of the Lord not only measured to us faith and grace but it also measured up to us the challenges of self-denial and cross-bearing. Both of those ideas are increasingly difficult for the consumer mentality of churchgoers in America. Instead of being so concerned as to what the Christ can do for us, this book homes in on the need for what we must do for Christ.
- John Mac Arthur is one of the most trusted Bible teachers in the world. In this book, he is rightly blunt about our responsibility to believe in Christianity OF THE BIBLE. We too often stray away from the truth of God's Word toward believes which are more "convenient" and "less onerous" to follow. Hard to Believe had a profound impact on me, and I have recommended to several friends, speaking of the book as I preached about the need for true disciple-making in the church.
- Our Sunday School class used this for a church-wide study. Some of us came away feeling like we really can't measure up--so much stress on your salvation being all about being like Jesus all of the time. The author did say we can't do it without the help of the Holy Spirit, but even with His help, I feel like a failure, and wondering if I'm really saved after all since I find it hard to love people. After going through this book I felt depressed instead of edified.
- This book is exactly what every believer needs to read, because it wakes one up to the reality of what it means to TRULY FOLLOW Jesus! There is an immense difference in being a believer with your "own life" and a follower who denies oneself, as Christ commanded, and I think this book brilliantly portrays that shocking truth.
John's book challenges the comfort zones of all who claim to know and follow Christ in a way that makes every believer accountable once each chapter truly takes hold of you! When compared to scripture it is 100% accurate and truthful in nature and I truly commend this pastor for finally telling believers the truth about what Jesus was really telling us!
A big thank you to the author for this book! Blessings in abundance to you, Sir! - This book gives the clearest understanding of GRACE and true salvation you will ever hear. It is DEAD on accurate with the Bible and when you get done you will have two choices. Accept the truth of God's Word even if it conflicts with everything you have been taught all your walk in church, and it very well MAY as FEW preachers preach the truth about Grace I am sorry to say.
OR you will reject this and believe Dr. MarArthur is wrong and when you stand before God you will sadly find out how right he is. Matthew 721-23 "21 â€Å“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many [a]miracles?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’" - John MacAurthur presents a "no spin" explaination of the Gospel. It is not the typical "seeker friendly" presentation of, "God loves you and wants to do wonderful things for you." It is a Biblical explaination of how we are all sinners and as such are under the wrath of God. Yes God does love the world, he loves us so that he sent His Son Jesus Christ who willingly paid the penalty for our sins on the cross. When Christ yelled out, "My God My God why hast thou forsaken me?" He was experiencing separation from God the Father and God the Holy Spirit for the first time ever. He was bearing OUR sins and God's wrath was being poured out on Him, Jesus Christ, instead of us. Christ who knew no sin was made sin for us. The whole story is hard to believe. That the promised redeamer of man shoud die at the hands of the Jews and Romans seems foolishness to mankind. But it is the Gospel of Christ as presented in the Bible but rejected by many "so called" Christian church leaders today. I have purchased several copies of this book and give it to those the Lord puts in my life that are seeking a releationship with God.
- John MacArthur writes like he is a man trying to capture The Lord's Heart. I agree with everything he has written. Jesus did not endure what he endured so that I can live a self fulfilled life. We are at war against evil every day. We need to always prepare ourselves day to day, putting on the armor of God to handle what comes our way. Reading his books helps me and renews me everytime I pick it up. So please if you think everything is all about you, then I challenge you to read this book. It just may change your way of thinking. The best part is it makes you want to spread the word to EVERYONE.
