"This is a great book! I read the Clifton Chronicles earlier this year and really enjoyed the way Jeffrey Archer wrote that series. This book is also very good and well written in my opinion. I watched a video interview of Jeffrey Archer where he stated one of his favorite books was The Count of Monte Cristo and that he based this book on that story. That closed me and I started reading. There are a few points which are a bit far-fetched, but nevertheless it's a fun story. I'm now going to read Kane and Abel by Archer and see how that is."

• With this novel, Jeffrey Archer lives up to his billing as a master storyteller. He quickly gets you involved with the story and situation, and makes you believe you are right there in the middle of the novel as one of the characters. Just when you think you have things figured out, he takes a hard turn with an ending you probably won’t see coming. If you have enjoyed Archer’s other books, I believe this one ranks up there with one of his best. I purchased this a while ago for just $2.99 during a promotion vs. its normal price of $9.99 I certainly believe I received more than $9.99 worth of entertainment value out of this one.

• This was another revisit to a book I had read a while ago prompted by an deal for a copy for pocket change. Once again I enjoyed revisiting a book I had enjoyed before and surprisingly there were only a few parts that I really remembered.
  
  There are several parts to a pretty complex plot. At the beginning East-Ender Danny Cartwright proposes to his pregnant girlfriend, Beth Wilson and then goes out with Bernie, Beth's brother and Danny's best mate, to a pub to celebrate. There are four drunken men in the pub and one of them makes obscene suggestions to Beth and then picks a fight with Danny and Bernie. The outcome of the brawl is that Danny is stabbed in the leg by the leader of their opponents who then stabs Bernie fatally.
  
  The twist in the tale is that the leader of the pack, who call themselves "the Musketeers", is an eminent and very clever lawyer who concocts a bogus story that Danny killed his best friend. Danny is arrested for murder and in court the Musketeers stick by their story and Danny is given a life sentence.
  
  Archer then brings his own prison experience into play when he describes prison conditions and the developing personal relationship with his cellmates, especially with Nick Moncrieff, an intelligent and cultured heir to a knighthood who looks uncannily similar to Bernie. Nick helps Bernie to with his education and social skills and they become inseparable. This sets the scene for Danny's determination to seek revenge on each of the Musketeers.
  
  It is a very entertaining story as Danny plots his revenge and as uses his new social and business skills to track down each Musketeer and establish a new life. Jeffrey Archer's books can never be called literary fiction but there are few authors of this genre who can beat him as a master storyteller of complex and entertaining plots.
• This is a fun book, but not great literature. Enjoyable to read because it does not require great concentration, although the reader does need to pay attention to the names of the characters as there are a lot of them. To me, this is the type of book to read on vacation or at the beach when you are looking for a way to forget the pressure of everyday life.
• I think Archer is a superior author, and this story is one of his better books. I'm pretty good at figuring out twists in a plot, and how the story will end, but this book kept me guessing! It definitely will surprise! The story is moving, and one becomes immersed in the characters. There were several instances I had such strong emotional reactions that I found myself saying out loud, "no, how could you do that?" or " how terrible!" and other reactions. There are some good lessons in this book about speculating and holding grudges against people.
• This book is about a gross miscarriage of justice that happened in the British court system. The first three quarters of the book were painful to read because of the injustices that followed. The following one fourth of the book involved the just revenge that followed. That part of the book was truly suspenseful. Many admirable men were developed and described. This part of the book brought a glow to the heart and even tears to the eyes. Seeing justice finally being done against overwhelming odds in the ponderous British court system gives the reader intense satisfaction.
• This novel takes on life from the first page, as it reaches to the reader’s heart and captures the eyes! Injustice. Pain. Grief. Hopeless. What more could possibly be packed between the spine of so ingenious a novel! Buy it, but don’t turn to page one till you have time to read it through!
• This was a book I purchased when I needed something to read as opposed to my hearing a little of the story and wanting to read it. As such I was a bit dubious that I would enjoy it. I like Jeffrey Archer's stories but wasn't sure I would like this one. I was pleasantly surprised. It follows his general recipe of the down trodden coming good and whilst you know in your heart of hearts what the likely outcome will be there were still enough twists and turns to be left fearful that the hero may end up in serious trouble. The best compliment I can offer is that when I finished the book there was that feeling of 'I wish there was more'.
