“Ms. Sinclair managed the impossible; I actually fell in love with a sadist that has scared me beyond spitless throughout this series!†~ Kinky Book Reviews
When trying to save a woman from slavers, Master Sam screwed up. Royally. Now Linda wants nothing to do with him. Or with BDSM. She won’t even admit she’s a masochist. As a dominant and sadist, he can give her what she needs, and when an opportunity arises, he slips into her life, intending to make amends. She’s everything he knew she would be…except for her bullheaded determination to be “normalâ€.
Free from the slavers, Linda just wants to return to her small conservative town, pick up her quiet life, and be normal. But how can someone who likes pain be “normal To her dismay, when someone spray-paints her home with obscenities, Sam shows up to rescue her. Again. Doesn’t he understand that the last thing she needs in her life is a sadist? His amusement at her objections doesn’t disguise that he’s tough as nails, very dominant, and extremely stubborn. He’s won’t let her drive him off this time…not when they both know she wants him to stay.
In the Shadowlands club, she finds acceptance and friendship…until she hears a voice from out of her nightmares.
“This is an author who is a master at her craft and whose imagination brings characters to life so well you want to hang out with them, and if I could rate it higher, I would.†~ Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

"As usual this author hit it out of the park in this story. In reading this series I can honestly say, Sam scared the crap out of me. But still very much intrigued me. I understand the dynamics of a sadist/masochist relationship, still doesn't make it any easier to read. That being said, this author did an amazing job creating a story believable & enlightening. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the characters were perfect. I cried through To Command & Collar, especially during Sam & Linda soul wrenching scene. I truly didn't know if I'd be able to make it through this one without a whole box of tissues. Well I'm happy to say I made it through with tears in my eyes & a smile on my face. Mostly though, loving Sam even more....ENJOY"

This Is Who I Am Masters of the Shadowlands Volume 7 Cherise Sinclair Books Reviews
- I think this was the best Shadowlands book so far. With a great mix of erotic scenes, real life and a side order of crime syndicate and FBI, the story just flowed.
Sam as our male lead showed another side to the Gods of Shadowlands; older, sadist and emotionally closed, all something a little new! He didn't always get it right, he wasn't always perfect!
Linda, our female lead and submissive in this book, was again, something a little different. Older, mother, and masochist, Linda is also a survivor and tough as nails. Not that the other subs weren't, but this was just different, more real!
Despite the S/M relationship being a strong part of the story, and not to my tastes, I thoroughly enjoyed the story with all of it's ups and downs.
Things in the bedroom got a little repetitive and dare-I-say-it 'boring' at either of their homes, but Shadowlands play sessions were amusing and exciting despite being pain related. Towards the end of the book things got more interesting which helped the pacing around the climax.
I liked that serious relationship issues, including failed marriages and communication concerns were explored and felt very natural to the relationship. This was by far the best representation of relationships I've seen from Cherise.
Some of the supporting cast had large life events in this book which was a nice touch to remind the reader that the lifestyle isn't all sex and chains, but that real life continues too, with all its craziness.
If you're put off by the S/M relationship, don't be, it was handled well and the pain rather delicately described. Quite a few explosions and pleasure waves were ridden between these covers.
To me, this was one of the sadder tales in the Shadowlands series. And that's not because the others lacked sadness, but more that these characters felt very real, with Linda's self-loathing and doubt and Sam's emotional withdrawal. They both did and said things that real people do.
The added sweetness of Conn, Sam's trusted canine companion, and the lovely ladies of Linda's seaside hometown wrapped things up nicely.
I am quite interested to see what happens in book 8, the next one in the series! I will be getting to it in short order! - As with each of the 7 Masters of the Shadowlands books that I have read, this one has been equally enjoyable. I love books about members of BDSM clubs. Although I am not in the lifestyle, I have a deep fascination for it. Sadism and masochism are not areas that I find an interest in. However, Cherise Sinclair made this book, which has S/M as a focal point, truly interesting. I would like to have had something in it that explained how or why pain can be pleasurable. That is a total mystery to me! The way that she told the story about the sex slave ring and how detailed she was about the set up of the organization is awesome. I have come to love each of the Masters (Z, Dan, Cullen, Nolan, Marcus, Raoul and Sam) because of the way that each is portrayed as characters that are deeply in love with their submissives, caring individuals that work to keep their club safe for all members, respect the right to say no by enforcing, safe, sane and consensual rules and teach trainees how to negotiate with Doms/Dommes. I love that Cherise Sinclair can write about this subject matter and encompass, sexuality, sensuality, safety and honesty while also writing great stories. I also love the way that each of the Masters and their subs are intertwined in each story of the series because it feels like family and not merely acquaintances with a common factor of kink.
- Geez fricking Louise! Sam is so dang hot. I hate pain, but how can I be so drawn to this character? Really. Please explain it to me.
And as for Linda, she is a kickass, straight up heroine. We are basically the same age, and I love her. When her kids get upset, she doesn't lie down and take it. She dished out some home truths about how to respect your mother even if she does liked to be spanked more than a naughty five year old. (No, I never spanked my son as I was the one that ended up crying.)
What works here is, not the continuing saga of the bad guys, but the relationship between Sam and Linda, between a sadist and a masochist. Granted, Sinclair doesn't push the boundaries into scary territory, but to introduce the concept that the properly placed pain is not a bad thing for Miss Vanilla here was very well done and, yes, exiting. Plus, the two are just really good and honorable people. It's difficult to write a good guy that's not boring. Sam IS NOT BORNG. Neither is Linda. Thank you, Ms. Sinclair.
I am very new to the BDSM lit scene, but Cherise Sinclair does such a convincing and alluring vision of it. Sadly, I think her version may be as fictitious as the books she writes. - The Masters of the Shadowlands upscale BDSM club are experts at bondage, discipline, dominance and submission, sadomasochism and a host of other erotic activities. Unlike the other stories in the series that focus on a dominant and a submissive, this story has quite a few twists. The hero is an older divorcee that's a dominant sadist (and proud of it) and the heroine is an older widow that's a submissive masochist. WOW!
I have difficulty viewing sadists as hero's much less likeable but leave it to Cherise Sinclair to change my viewpoint. Yes, there is a lot of kinky, erotic and intense sex but also action, suspense, love and much laugh out loud humor. This older kinky sexy loveable couple is by far my favorite. - As usual this author hit it out of the park in this story. In reading this series I can honestly say, Sam scared the crap out of me. But still very much intrigued me. I understand the dynamics of a sadist/masochist relationship, still doesn't make it any easier to read.
