- Tale of Mexican-American young men in early 1950's Texas who discover thay can earn some $ as golf caddies. They lean the trade of bag carring and length estimation, the anger the golfers they carry for is suprising.
Eventually the young men piece together enough clubs to fill one golf bag. One of the guys hits balls on the course while his grandfather mows the grass as they are not allowed to play the course.
Thy construct their own one-hole course and name it, claim it as their own, it has no grass and they become golf marksmen. Eventually they are allowed to play on the golf course on Mondays when the course is closed.
Two local men want to start a high school golf team and recruit the caddies. They play, facing racism from area whites. They qualify and make it to the state meet despite their inferior equipment.
The next year they storm back to the state meet for the two day event. The second day it rains. The players from other schools struggle with the rain and their wet gloves. The Mustangs play bare-handed and school the other players. Well written with some villans that flows well enough to be portrayed in a movie, it has been pitched as a movie and is supposedly to be in production at some point. Some swearing. Like Hoosiers,The Perfect Game [HD], and Tin Cup. - Excellent story. Very inspirational in seeing young Mexican-Americans determined to excel in their dreams.

- This is an inspiring story about overcoming obstacles and amazing determination! On its face, it's a tale about 4 young men who win a State golf championship. But it is clearly about much more than that. The story is an inspiring reminder of how hurtful and unfair racism is, while serving as an encouraging benchmark to measure just how much things have changed for the better in our society from not that long ago. This book contains important lessons for all of us, regardless of race or generation.
